Florence pays tribute to two great women |
People taking villa holidays in Tuscany over the coming months should pay a visit to the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence for an exhibition paying tribute to Caterina and Maria de Medici.
The exhibition features a number of works of art and artefacts from various museums and revolves around the themes of power and femininity.
Holidaymakers will be able to visit the display until February 8th next year.
Caterina and Maria de Medici were both widows of their royal husbands and witnessed many dramatic events during their lives, including the struggles between the Catholics and the Huguenots
Both women made use of art and artists to support their role as queen and offered support to painters such as Rubens and Van Dyck.
The range of exhibition pieces that people on villa holidays in Tuscany can see at the Palazzo Strozzi includes 15 tapestries about five metres high, which refer to the stories of two mythical Greek widows.
