Gladiator theme park for Rome |
Brits enjoying villa holidays in Rome could soon find themselves rediscovering the history of the Colosseum in the most entertaining of ways.
The Guardian reports that the city's deputy mayor is looking past the cultural offerings Rome boasts - such as its baroque architecture, religious heritage and quaint squares - and is planning to develop a theme park.
Modelled on Paris' Disneyland, the deputy mayor said that the gladiatorial themed park would measure roughly 1,250-acres and would be situated on the outskirts of Rome.
"You would relive scenes from the Colosseum, from ancient Rome, gladiators or maybe Julius Caesar or other things," a Rome city official told the newspaper.
It was recently reported that Italy is one of the most popular destinations for Brits getting married abroad.
The Italian Riviera was fourth on a list of the top ten "wonder" wedding destinations published by Halifax.
