Rome prepares to Race for the Cure |
People enjoying villa holidays in Rome this May who are confident in their athletic abilities may be interested in taking part in the city's Race for the Cure event.
This annual event combines sport, entertainment and understanding as thousands of people gather to run through the streets of the city, raising money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.
Participants can take part in either a five-kilometre mini-marathon or a two-kilometre walk.
Everyone who runs the race will receive a t-shirt, a bag filled with gadgets and information about the initiatives they have helped to support.
Among the projects that will benefit from the Race for the Cure event is a location that offers free diagnosis for socially disadvantaged women, training courses for health workers and education programmes to help people reduce their risk of contracting the disease.
Last year, some 34,000 people took part in the Race for the Cure and even more are expected to support the event this year.
