Rome to give rare glimpse of Vatican documents |
People staying in villas in Italy will be able to attend a fascinating public exhibition in Rome over the coming month.
A display of centuries-old Vatican documents will be held at the Italian capital's Central Risorgimento Museum until March 16th, the Associated Press reports.
The archives of what was once known as the Holy Office were kept secret until 1998, when they were opened to scholars.
This exhibition represents the first time that the documents, which offer an intriguing glimpse of Italy at the time of the medieval Inquisition, have been made available for public viewing.
One of the exhibits is an order from the Holy Office dated 1611, which instructs Inquisitors as to how they should carry out their jobs and conduct themselves in their life.
Another piece, a calendar from 1708, details the schedules of religious groups whose members helped Rome's hospitals, including the Holy Spirit hospital, which is still in operation today.
People planning villa holidays in Italy who hope to visit the country's capital can find a number of museums and galleries across the city, including the Capitolini Museums at Piazza del Campidoglio and the Borghese Museum at Piazza Scipione Borghese.
